Types of Air Conditioners Suitable for Home Use

AI Development

Currently, air conditioners (AC) have become an essential need to maintain comfort in homes. With a variety of AC types available in the market, it is important for us to understand each type in order to make the right decision.

An AC not only functions to cool the room but also helps maintain air quality. It's no wonder that AC has become a necessity for many people, even in subsidized homes. In this article, we will explore various types of AC along with their features and benefits.

Types of AC

Central AC

Central AC is designed to cool the entire house by distributing cold air through a network of ducts. This system consists of an outdoor unit containing the condenser and compressor, as well as an indoor unit that circulates the cold air through the ducts.

Central AC offers efficient cooling, better air quality, and the ability to set different temperatures for each room. However, the electricity consumption of this type of AC is quite high, so it is more commonly used in office buildings or hotels.

Split AC

Split AC is the most commonly used type in homes. It consists of two main components: an outdoor unit containing the condenser and compressor, and an indoor unit that pumps cold air into the room. Split AC offers relatively easy installation, an aesthetic appearance, and the ability to control the room temperature independently.

The price of split AC units varies. You can find them ranging from 2 million IDR to tens of millions, depending on the technology used.

Window AC

Window AC is a type of air conditioner that is installed in a window or wall. The unit combines the cooling components and fan into one unit. Window AC is generally more affordable and suitable for smaller rooms. The drawback of this type is higher noise levels and being limited to smaller areas.

Portable AC

Portable AC is a flexible solution for cooling specific rooms. It is easy to move from one room to another and generally does not require permanent installation. However, portable AC tends to have lower cooling capacity and requires venting hot air through a ventilation hose.

This type of AC can be a solution if you are on a budget. Under certain conditions, portable AC is quite suitable for subsidized homes.

Ductless AC

Ductless AC, also known as a split ductless AC or mini-split AC, is an ideal solution for homes without ducts. It consists of an outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor units that pump cold air into the rooms.

Ductless AC offers design flexibility, efficient cooling, and the ability to set independent room temperatures. Unfortunately, this type of AC is rarely found in Indonesia.

Choosing the Right Type of AC for Your Home

When choosing the right AC for your needs, consider the size of the room, the number of rooms that need to be cooled, and your budget.

Central AC and split AC are generally suitable for houses with multiple rooms, while window AC and portable AC are more appropriate for small rooms or temporary use. Meanwhile, ductless AC is a good option for homes without duct systems.

Choose the type of AC that best fits your needs and make sure to maintain it regularly to ensure its optimal performance.
